DENTON, Texas - Members
of the Dallas and Forth Worth Symphonies raised more than
$8,000 for the Nelson Children's Center recently during
two chamber music concerts.
The concerts, called "Ellen Rose and Friends,"
are named after Ellen Rose, principal viola with the Dallas
Symphony Orchestra. She has been instrumental in organizing
the concerts and recruiting her musical friends to take
part.
The Nelson Children's Center
in Denton serves up to 65 children, ages 6 to 16, who
have been severely abused and neglected. Education is
provided at the center by Trinity Charter School. The
children receive individual and group therapy and provided
structured activities on and off campus. The center also
provides substance abuse education, music therapy, self-esteem
building and anger management.
The center was established
in 1995 by Lutheran Social Services.
